This antibody is predicted to react with non-human primate based on sequence homology.

Target Information

NANOG (Nanog homeobox) is a divergent homeodomain protein that regulates pluripotency and differentiation of undifferentiated embryonic stem cells. NANOG mRNA is present in pluripotent mouse and human cell lines but absent from differentiated cells. Human NANOG shares 52% overall amino acid identity with mouse NANOG and 85% identity in the homeodomain region.

Human NANOG maps to gene locus 12p13.31, while mouse NANOG maps to 6 F2. NANOG expression is detected in the inner cell mass of the blastocyst and plays a key role in embryonic stem cell proliferation and self-renewal. Overexpression of NANOG promotes S phase entry and proliferation. NANOG dysfunction is associated with teratocarcinoma and germ cell/embryonal cancers.

Research has shown that NANOG, along with transcription factors such as POU5F1 (Oct-4), Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, and c-Myc, can be used to generate induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, providing potential applications in regenerative medicine.
