This antibody reacts with an extracellular/luminal epitope of CD63 (LAMP-3), a 40–60 kDa tetraspan glycoprotein expressed by granulocytes, platelets, T cells, monocytes/macrophages, and endothelial cells. Cell surface exposition of CD63 is usually activation-dependent.
Target Information
CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein of the tetraspanin family present in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles. It is also found on the plasma membrane following cell activation and serves as a basophil activation marker. CD63 interacts with integrins, affects phagocytosis and cell migration, and is involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and ROMK1 channel regulation. It functions as a T-cell costimulation molecule and can be used to predict carcinoma prognosis. CD63 is expressed on activated platelets and monocytes/macrophages, weakly on granulocytes, B, and T cells. It is identical to melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and platelet antigen PTLGP40. Dysfunctions are associated with melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
