Target Information
CHMP4B is a member of the chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein (CHMP) family. It is part of the ESCRT-III complex, which functions in sorting endocytosed cell-surface receptors into multivesicular endosomes. The ESCRT machinery also plays roles in cytokinesis and the budding of enveloped viruses such as HIV-1.
CHMP4 subfamily proteins interact with PDCD6IP (ALIX) in the ESCRT pathway. These proteins assemble into membrane-attached 5-nm filaments that form circular scaffolds, promoting or stabilizing outward budding and generating luminal vesicles of multivesicular bodies.
