Target Information
The Toll-like receptor (TLR) family in mammals comprises transmembrane proteins characterized by multiple leucine-rich repeats in the extracellular domain and an IL-1 receptor motif in the cytoplasmic domain. TLRs signal through adaptor molecules and are key mediators of innate immunity essential for microbial recognition.
TLR11 specifically responds to uropathogenic bacteria rather than known TLR ligands. TLR11-deficient mice are highly susceptible to kidney infections caused by uropathogenic bacteria, suggesting a protective role of TLR11 in the urogenital system.
