Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), which play a structural role in maintaining the proper refractive index of the lens. The mammalian lens contains three major classes of crystallins: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin is the largest and is composed of two primary gene products, alpha-A and alpha-B. Alpha-crystallin comprises about 40% of the total lens protein and also functions as a molecular chaperone, preventing protein aggregation that can lead to cataract formation.
Phosphorylated states of alpha-crystallin may occur in response to cellular stress and play a role in structural control and protein maintenance. Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
