Target Information
The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator. The 20S core has four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two α and two β rings). The 19S regulator consists of a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits). Proteasomes are widely distributed in eukaryotic cells and function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage. The immunoproteasome, a modified form, processes class I MHC peptides and includes the 11S regulator (PA28). This gene encodes the gamma subunit of the 11S regulator, which forms a homohexameric ring. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
