Target Information

The protein encoded by the BAIAP2 gene acts as a brain-specific angiogenesis inhibitor (BAI1)-binding protein. It serves as an adaptor linking membrane-bound G-proteins to cytoplasmic effector proteins and functions as an insulin receptor tyrosine kinase substrate, suggesting a role for insulin in the central nervous system.
Additionally, it interacts with Rho small G protein effectors involved in stress fiber formation and cytokinesis. This protein contributes to lamellipodia and filopodia formation in motile cells and may affect neuronal growth-cone guidance. It also interacts with the dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy gene, linked to an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
