Product Description
Norgen’s Plant microRNA Purification Kit provides a rapid method for isolating and purifying small RNA molecules (<200 nt) from cultured plant cells or plant tissues. These include regulatory RNAs such as microRNA (miRNA) and short interfering RNA (siRNA), as well as tRNA and 5S rRNA.
Small RNAs are key regulators of gene expression, typically 20–25 nucleotides long, binding to mRNA to affect stability or translation.
Purified small RNAs can be used for RT-PCR, miRNA sequencing, northern blotting, and microarray analysis.

Figure 1. Fractionation of Large and Small RNA
Large RNA and small RNA were sequentially purified using Norgen’s Plant miRNA Purification Kit from 50 mg of raspberry leaf tissue. The RNA profile was compared with RNA isolated using Norgen’s Plant/Fungi Total RNA Purification Kit (Cat. #25800).
10 µL of RNA from a 50 µL elution was loaded on a 2% agarose gel. Norgen’s kit successfully isolated both large and small RNA fractions, with small RNA fraction free of large RNA species.

Small RNA was concentrated from 50 mg raspberry using Norgen’s Plant miRNA Purification Kit. 3 µL of elution was used for cDNA generation, followed by qPCR detection using Bio-Rad CFX96.

Three different miRNA purification methods were compared for their ability to isolate and detect plant miRNA from grape samples. Only the miRNA purified using Norgen’s kit (blue lines) was amplified, while competitor kits failed due to phenol interference.
