Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APCs). Activated T cells express receptors such as PD-1 (PDCD-1) that mediate inhibitory signals from APCs. PD-1 binds two ligands, PDL-1 and PDL-2, and upon binding, inhibits immune activation in absence of danger signals. PD1-deficient mice exhibit hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune diseases. PD-1 may migrate at higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE despite its predicted molecular weight.
