Target Information
The gamma-Tubulin complex consists of gamma Tubulin and associated proteins GCP2–GCP6, which are essential components of microtubule organizing centers. These complexes localize to centrosomes for microtubule nucleation and also exist in the cytoplasm as soluble forms.
GCP5 (gamma-Tubulin complex component 5), also known as TUBGCP5, is a 1,024 amino acid protein highly expressed in heart and skeletal muscle.
Defects in the GCP5 gene are implicated in Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), a genetic disorder associated with obesity, compulsive behavior, and lower intellectual ability.
