Target Information
Adiponectin is a protein hormone secreted exclusively by adipocytes that regulates lipid and glucose metabolism. It plays roles in homeostasis and obesity. Decreased adiponectin levels are associated with obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes. In mice, adiponectin improves insulin signaling via activation of AMP kinase and PPAR-alpha, promoting fatty acid oxidation and reducing intramyocellular lipid levels.
