Target Information

CD206 (also known as MSR, Mannose receptor, MRC1) is a 175 kDa transmembrane protein belonging to the pattern recognition receptor family.
It is mainly expressed in tissue macrophages, dendritic cells, certain endothelial cells, and sperm cells. CD206 plays a key role in both innate and adaptive immune responses.

It mediates recognition and uptake of various macromolecules such as modified lipoproteins, advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and amyloid β-protein (Aβ).
While normally involved in cell adhesion and host defense, CD206 has also been implicated in atherosclerosis and amyloid β deposition in Alzheimer’s disease.

The CD206 gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors with three isoforms (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing.

  • Isoforms 1 and 2 are functional and mediate endocytosis of modified LDLs.
  • Isoform 3 lacks this function and remains trapped in the endoplasmic reticulum, exerting a dominant negative effect on the other isoforms.

Dysfunction of CD206 has been associated with diseases such as leprosy and Gaucher’s disease.
