Target Information
KMT2A is a histone methyltransferase essential for early development and hematopoiesis. It functions as the catalytic subunit of the MLL1/MLL complex, mediating methylation of Lys-4 on histone H3 (H3K4me) and acetylation of Lys-16 on histone H4 (H4K16ac). Within this complex, KMT2A specifically catalyzes H3K4 methylation, a marker for epigenetic transcriptional activation. The enzyme shows weak activity alone and requires other MLL1/MLL complex components for full activity. KMT2A is critical for transcriptional activation of HOXA9 and promotes PPP1R15A-induced apoptosis.
