Target Information
The EMX2 gene encodes a homeobox-containing transcription factor homologous to the empty spiracles gene in Drosophila.
In humans, EMX2 is expressed in:
- Dorsal telencephalon (developmental gradient from low rostral-lateral to high caudal-medial)
- Olfactory neuroepithelium (complexes with eIF4E, may regulate mRNA transport/translation)
- Urogenital system (epithelial tissues, negatively regulated by HOXA10)
Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding distinct proteins.
