Target Information
The OLIG2 gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor expressed in oligodendroglial tumors of the brain. It regulates ventral neuroectodermal progenitor cell fate and is involved in chromosomal translocation t(14;21)(q11.2;q22) associated with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The gene is located on chromosome 21, a region implicated in learning deficits associated with Down syndrome.
Tissue Specificity:
Expressed in the brain, particularly in oligodendrocytes. Strongly expressed in oligodendrogliomas; weak to moderate in astrocytomas; expression in glioblastomas is highly variable.
