Target Information

CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays a role in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, and recognizes ligands such as oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, mediating cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in this gene can lead to platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Associated diseases include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
