SULT1C4는 3′-phospho-5′-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS)를 황산기 공여체로 사용하여 페놀성 화합물의 황산화 결합을 촉매하는 sulfotransferase입니다. 에스트로겐성 화합물도 황산화할 수 있으나, 식이성 플라보노이드(phytoestrogen) 및 환경성 에스트로겐(예: bisphenol A)이 17β-estradiol(E2)보다 더 좋은 기질로 알려져 있습니다. [Uniprot 참조]
