Target Information
PACS2 is a multifunctional sorting protein that controls endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondria communication, including the apposition of mitochondria with the ER and ER homeostasis. In response to apoptotic inducers, PACS2 translocates BID to mitochondria, initiating a cascade involving mitochondrial truncated BID formation, cytochrome c release, and caspase-3 activation, leading to cell death.
PACS2 may also be involved in ion channel trafficking, directing acidic cluster-containing ion channels to distinct subcellular compartments.
