Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide binding proteins, including the R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies, share 30–60% homology with Ras p21. Rab proteins play important roles in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport. They mediate the movement of carrier vesicles between the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi complex, and secretory vesicles. Evidence also suggests Rab proteins may direct exocytosis from secretory vesicles to the plasma membrane, as observed in yeast SEC4 protein, which is 40% homologous to Rab proteins.
