Target Information

KCNA10 is a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, shaker-related subfamily.
This protein contains six membrane-spanning domains with a shaker-type repeat in the fourth segment.
It is specifically regulated by cGMP and is postulated to mediate the effects of substances that increase intracellular cGMP.
The KCNA10 gene is intronless and clustered with KCNA2 and KCNA3 on chromosome 1.

Potassium channels represent a complex class of voltage-gated ion channels with diverse physiological roles including:

  • Regulation of neurotransmitter release
  • Control of heart rate and insulin secretion
  • Modulation of neuronal excitability and epithelial electrolyte transport
  • Involvement in smooth muscle contraction and cell volume regulation

Four sequence-related potassium channel gene families — shaker, shaw, shab, and shal — have been identified in Drosophila, each with human homologs.
