Target Information
This gene encodes human lysozyme, an enzyme that hydrolyzes the β(1-4) glycosidic bonds in bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan. Lysozyme is an antimicrobial component found in human milk, spleen, lung, kidney, white blood cells, plasma, saliva, and tears. Mutations in the LYZ gene have been associated with hereditary renal amyloidosis.
