Target Information
Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are secreted signaling molecules that can induce ectopic bone growth. Many BMPs belong to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. BMPs were identified by their ability to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo. BMP7, expressed early in embryogenesis, is proposed to play a role in early development. Its similarity to BMP5 and BMP6 suggests possible bone inductive activity.
