PA1-7259 detects Streptococcus pneumoniae.
This product cross-reacts with types 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 14, 18, 19, and 23.
The antiserum was not absorbed and may react with related microorganisms.
PA1-7259 has been successfully used in immunofluorescence and ELISA procedures.
The immunogen is a whole cell blend of numerous serotypes.
Short term storage (up to 6 months) at 4°C; for long term storage, aliquot and store at -20°C.
Target Information
There are more than 85 antigenic types of S. pneumoniae, determined by capsule antigens.
Although S. pneumoniae is part of the normal respiratory flora, invasion commonly results in pneumonia and meningitis.
S. pneumoniae is protected from phagocytosis by its polysaccharide capsule, a key virulence factor.
Infections can usually be treated with antibiotics, although resistant strains are emerging.
