Product Specific Information

  • In Western Blot, a band is observed at ~56 kDa representing the ATG5-ATG12 complex; molecular weight of human ATG5 is ~33 kDa.
  • Antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0) is recommended before immunostaining paraffin tissues.
  • Suggested positive control: mouse wildtype ES cell lysate.

Target Information

ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a key component in autophagy and plays roles in apoptosis, mitochondrial quality control, immune response regulation, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Upon conjugation with ATG12, the complex facilitates autophagosome formation and interacts with FADD to contribute to autophagic cell death.
The ATG5-ATG12 conjugate also associates with innate immune response proteins such as RIG-I and VISA (IPS-1), modulating interferon production and viral replication.
Dysfunction of ATG5 is linked to spinocerebellar ataxia.
