Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the S100 family of proteins containing two EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of various cells and are involved in regulating cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. The S100 gene family includes at least 13 members clustered on chromosome 1q21; however, this gene is located at 4p16. This protein binds Ca²⁺, Zn²⁺, and Mg²⁺ and may play a role in the etiology of prostate cancer.
