JMJD6 유전자는 JmjC 도메인을 포함한 핵 단백질을 암호화합니다.
이 도메인을 가진 단백질들은 일반적으로 단백질 하이드록실화 효소 또는 히스톤 탈메틸화 효소로 기능할 것으로 예측됩니다.
JMJD6는 처음에는 세포사멸세포의 식작용에 관여하는 인산지질세린 수용체로 제안되었으나, 이후 연구에서 직접적인 기능은 확인되지 않았습니다.
이 유전자는 여러 전사 변이체를 통해 다양한 아이소폼을 생성합니다.
