Target Information

The Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome family of proteins share similar domain structures and are involved in transducing signals from cell surface receptors to the actin cytoskeleton. These proteins are regulated by multiple stimuli and interact with various partners, including the small GTPase Cdc42 and the Arp2/3 complex, which regulate actin filament formation.
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome is an X-linked recessive disorder characterized by immune dysregulation and microthrombocytopenia, caused by mutations in the WAS gene. The WAS gene product is a cytoplasmic protein expressed exclusively in hematopoietic cells, which exhibit signaling and cytoskeletal abnormalities in affected individuals.

A transcript variant resulting from alternative promoter usage and containing a different 5′ UTR sequence has been described, though its full-length nature remains unknown.
