Target Information
Using SAGE (Serial Analysis of Gene Expression) technology, St. Croix et al. identified 46 genes with expression elevated in tumor-associated endothelium. Nine of these, named Tumor Endothelial Markers (TEMs, TEM1–9), are expressed primarily in tumor endothelial cells but not in normal endothelial cells.
TEM7 transcripts are specifically expressed in the endothelium of colorectal, lung, pancreas, breast, and brain cancers, both in primary and metastatic tumors. Other family members (TEM1, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9) show similar expression patterns in lung and brain tumors and liver metastasis.
These genes may serve as valuable resources for studying human angiogenesis in both basic and clinical research.
