SPPL2A는 presenilin과 상동성을 가지는 Dictyostelium discoideum Impas의 상동 단백질을 기반으로, 림프구 및 해마 cDNA 라이브러리에서 PCR을 통해 클로닝된 단백질입니다 (Grigorenko et al., 2002).
이 단백질은 막내 단백질분해효소로 작용할 수 있으며, N-말단 protease-associated (PA) 도메인, 여러 개의 막관통 영역, 수용성 루프, 두 개의 아스파르트산 잔기 주변의 보존 서열, 그리고 C-말단 근처의 불변 PAL 모티프를 포함합니다.
