Target Information
Coagulation factor V (Proaccelerin) is an essential component of the blood coagulation cascade. It circulates in plasma and is activated by thrombin, producing heavy and light chains held together by calcium ions. Active factor V acts as a cofactor with activated factor X to convert prothrombin to thrombin.
Defects in the Factor V gene may cause various disorders such as Factor V deficiency, thrombophilia due to activated protein C resistance, Budd-Chiari syndrome, ischemic stroke, and recurrent pregnancy loss.
