LIMK1은 세린/트레오닌 키나아제로, cofilin의 인산화를 통해 액틴 세포골격 변화를 조절하는 역할을 합니다. 또한 뇌 발달과 관련이 있으며, LIM 도메인은 2개의 아연 손가락 구조를 포함하는 고도로 보존된 시스테인 풍부 구조입니다. LIMK1과 LIMK2는 N-말단의 두 LIM 모티프와 C-말단의 단백질 키나아제 도메인을 가진 소규모 서브패밀리에 속합니다. LIMK1의 반수체 결손은 Williams 증후군에서 시공간 인지 장애와 관련이 있습니다.
