Target Information
Coronavirus accessory proteins are essential for virus-host interactions and modulation of host immune responses.
It has been reported that accessory protein ORF3a encoded by SARS-CoV-2 can induce apoptosis, and proteins ORF6 and ORF8 inhibit type-I interferon (IFN) signaling.
The function of ORF7b is largely unknown; however, recent studies show ORF7b promotes expression of IFN-beta, TNF-alpha, and IL-6, activates type-I IFN signaling through IRF3 phosphorylation, and induces TNF alpha–mediated apoptosis in HEK293T and Vero E6 cells (PMID: 34484133).
