Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also called GITR or AITR, is a protein encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene in humans and mapped to 1p36.33. This receptor belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily and shows increased expression upon T-cell activation. It plays a key role in maintaining immunological self-tolerance via CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells. Knockout studies in mice indicate its involvement in CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
