Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological roles. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and are potential biomarkers for cancer and other diseases.
KLK7 is one of fifteen kallikrein family members located on chromosome 19. The encoded enzyme participates in proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures preceding desquamation, the shedding of the epidermal outer layer.
Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
