Target Information

RB-like 1 (RBL1) shares sequence and functional similarity with the retinoblastoma 1 (RB1) gene product. RB1 acts as a tumor suppressor involved in cell cycle regulation, being phosphorylated during the S–M phase transition and dephosphorylated in the G1 phase.
Both RB1 and RBL1 can form complexes with adenovirus E1A and SV40 large T-antigen, with binding occurring only in the unphosphorylated form. These proteins inhibit transcription of cell cycle genes containing E2F binding sites, suggesting that RBL1 may also function as a tumor suppressor.
