Target Information
The PTBP1 gene encodes a member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) subfamily, which are RNA-binding proteins that associate with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. PTBP1 contains four quasi-RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains that bind RNA and interact with intronic polypyrimidine tracts required for pre-mRNA splicing. It may also facilitate U2 snRNP binding to pre-mRNAs and is localized mainly in the nucleoplasm and perinucleolar structures. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
