Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a growing peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prx proteins (approximately 50 isoforms) contain active site cysteine residues and exhibit thiol-specific antioxidant activity. Mammalian Prxs are classified into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx groups. Prx VI, belonging to the 1-Cys subgroup, differs from other 2-Cys Prx isotypes that possess thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as a reducing system. Mammalian Prxs (20–30 kDa) vary in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; Prx V distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
