Target Information
Cytokeratin pan belongs to a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Cytokeratins range in molecular weight between 40–68 kDa and have an isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1–20. Expression patterns vary by epithelial type and differentiation stage, aiding in distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis via immunohistochemistry, and are also useful in cytopathology and flow cytometry.
Keratin expression varies with cell type, differentiation, growth environment, and disease state, making them valuable markers in cancer research and tumor diagnostics.
