Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a surface protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis by recognizing and uptaking ligands such as oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 functions as a thrombospondin receptor and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations can lead to platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Diseases associated with CD36 include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
