Target Information

TOP2B (DNA Topoisomerase II Beta) is a protein-coding gene encoding a DNA topoisomerase enzyme that controls and alters DNA topology during transcription.
This nuclear enzyme participates in chromosome condensation, chromatid separation, and relief of torsional stress during DNA transcription and replication.
It catalyzes transient breaks and rejoining of DNA strands, allowing passage and topological changes.
Two forms exist due to gene duplication: beta (chromosome 3) and alpha (chromosome 17).
TOP2B is a target for several anticancer agents, and mutations can lead to drug resistance.
Reduced activity may contribute to ataxia-telangiectasia.
Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
