This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box.
F-box proteins form part of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex (SCF), functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are divided into three classes:
- Fbws: Contain WD-40 domains
- Fbls: Contain leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: Contain other protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBXL3 protein belongs to the Fbls class, contains several tandem leucine-rich repeats, and is localized in the nucleus.
