Target Information
Lysophospholipid acyltransferases (LPLATs) catalyze the addition of fatty acyl moieties to the glycerol backbone of lysophospholipids.
These enzymes play a crucial role in the synthesis of structural membrane components and are implicated in cellular signaling responses to cytokines, growth factors, and other agonists.
In human mesangial and EL-4 cells, interleukin 1 receptor signaling activates lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase (LPAAT), generating unsaturated phosphatidic acid species essential for diacylglycerol and interleukin 1 signaling.
LPLATs also contribute to interleukin 2 synthesis signaling via the T cell antigen receptor. Activation of T-cells through anti-CD3 stimulation increases incorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acids into phosphatidylcholine via lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase, which is essential for sustained activation and translocation of protein kinase C.
