Target Information
OPA1 is a dynamin-related GTPase essential for maintaining mitochondrial morphology and mtDNA integrity. Mutations in OPA1 are associated with heterozygous optic atrophy, leading to progressive vision loss due to optic nerve fiber degeneration. OPA1 dysfunction has also been linked to mitochondrial abnormalities associated with schizophrenia, apoptosis regulation, and cellular metabolism.
