Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays key roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, mediating recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, and is involved in cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum–infected erythrocytes. Mutations can cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
