Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as confirmed by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Spectrin (Sp), the most abundant erythrocyte membrane skeleton protein, maintains the biconcave shape and elasticity of red blood cells. Erythrocyte spectrin is a heterodimer of a 280 kDa alpha subunit and a 246 kDa beta subunit, forming a 100 nm rod-like structure. In other tissues, spectrin may consist of homologous subunits known as fodrin. The nomenclature designates erythrocyte subunits as alpha-1 and beta-1, and fodrin subunits as alpha-2 and beta-2. Alternatively spliced forms are designated epsilon variants (e.g., beta-1 epsilon-1).
