Target Information
MST1R (RON) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell proliferation and motility. The protein is a membrane-spanning, disulfide-linked heterodimer, resulting from cleavage of a glycosylated precursor into 35-kD (alpha) and 150-kD (beta) subunits. Ligand binding induces tyrosine phosphorylation of the beta chain. Knockout studies show MST1R/RON (-/-) mice fail to survive past the periimplantation period. The MST1R/RON gene maps to 3p21, a region often deleted or mutated in small cell lung and renal carcinoma, and is implicated in epithelial cancer progression. MST1R/RON expression is documented in many normal human tissues. ESTs have been isolated from normal and cancerous tissues including colon, mouth, prostate, testis, stomach, and uterus.
