Target Information

Major histocompatibility (MHC) class II molecules are transmembrane proteins that play a central role in immune system development and regulation.
The RFXAP protein, together with regulatory factor X-associated ankyrin-containing protein and regulatory factor-5, forms a complex that binds to the X box motif of MHC class II gene promoters to activate transcription.
This complex also interacts with the non-DNA-binding MHC class II transactivator, determining cell type specificity and inducibility of MHC class II gene expression.
Mutations in this gene are associated with bare lymphocyte syndrome type II, complementation group D.
Transcript variants utilizing different polyA signals have been identified.
