Target Information
The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway of protein degradation maintains proper cellular protein levels. The ubiquitin-like (UbL) and ubiquitin-associated (UBA) domain-containing protein family is involved in proteasomal degradation.
CIP75, also known as Ubiquilin-4, interacts with proteins such as Ataxin-1 and Connexin-43, increasing their turnover rate. Overexpression of CIP75 reduces Connexin-43 half-life, while siRNA knockdown has the opposite effect.
CIP75 contains an N-terminal UbL domain that interacts with the 26S proteasome complex and a C-terminal UBA domain mediating Connexin-43 interaction. At least three isoforms of CIP75 are known.
