Target Information
The STAT5B protein is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. Upon cytokine or growth factor stimulation, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, forming homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5B mediates signaling from ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones, and is involved in processes including TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and liver gene expression. Abnormal regulation of STAT5B signaling has been implicated in certain leukemias, including fusion with the RARA gene in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APLL).
