Target Information
This gene functions as a metastasis suppressor, inhibiting metastases of melanomas and breast carcinomas without affecting tumorigenicity. The encoded protein may reduce chemotaxis and invasion, attenuating metastasis in malignant melanomas. It may play a role in regulation of cell-matrix adhesion and cytoskeletal reorganization. Kisspeptin, a product of this gene, stimulates GnRH-induced gonadotropin secretion and regulates pubertal activation of GnRH neurons. A polymorphism in the terminal exon leads to two isoforms, with one extended by seven amino acids due to a downstream stop codon.
